Market Segments

Global Semiconductor & Electronics Corporation technologies, services and manufacturing will give our customers the power to shape and lead their market. We are working closely with all industry leaders and entrants to identify the right technology opportunities and deliver the right solutions across established and emerging applications especially in mobility, automotive, defense, medical, communications networks, data centers and IoT.

For the domestic market segment, India’s current semiconductor consumption is driven primarily by private consumption so far, predominantly in telecom (particularly on the wireless side) and IT. These will continue to remain major drivers of overall demand through 2025 (particularly for key products like tablets, smart phones, data cards, notebooks and stations for mobile carriers). New technologies like 3G, LTE, 5G, Wifi and current applications such as Telecom, Automobile getting “smarter” fuel need for more ICs. We list the drivers for growth in detail as under –

  • Communications
  1. In the communications segment, the major demand drivers for semiconductors include wireless handsets, wireless infrastructure equipment, wireline switches and electronic push button telephones.

  • Defence electronics and ruggedized electronic companies products companies

  • IT Hardware and Office Automation
  1. Increasing income levels and decline in taxes due to government policies have contributed to the high usage of IT and OA products.
  2. The growing small office and home office culture as well as the burgeoning number of small and medium enterprises have given a thrust to IT and OA product demand.
  3. Projected expansion in the tablet and laptop segments

  • Consumer Electronics and Durables Market
  1. Major end user products, which contribute to the TAM, include televisions, set-top boxes, air-conditioners, washing machines, microwave ovens, and VCD and DVD players.

  • Others – including Industrial Electronics, Automotive, Defense
  1. Key usage areas in industrial electronics for semiconductors are Energy meters, Drives, smart cards, UPS and inverters, Medical Devices, Internet of Things (IoT) solutions and Automotive embedded platforms.
  2. Automotive semiconductor usage is in instrument clusters, engine management systems, flashers, wipers, power windows and CDI
  3. In the defense sector, India’s offset policy for defense goods has been designed to leverage the country’s position as a large buyer and exporter. The policy states that any purchase from a foreign supplier in excess of $70.0 million will require a reinvestment of 30% of the total purchase amount in terms of components and services from India. The offset policy applies to imports by defence PSU’s, ordinance factories, and private participants of the industry. This is expected to be a major driver of semiconductor usage going forward.

GSEC is already working with potential customers in the following areas, which link up directly with the Government stated priorities –

  1. Tablet, Mobile, IoT, Peripherals, and Laptop design and manufacture
  2. Electronic metering
  3. Smart Cards
  4. Defense Electronics and Chips manufacturing
  5. Set top box manufacturing and collaboration and application platforms
  6. Electronic data storage
  7. Secure networking
  8. Automotive embedded platforms
  9. Medical Devices etc.
